A Different Kind of Beauty

I recently bought a Fashion magazine from the airport on the way home from a trip and was very pleased to see an article on 'advanced style'- which is the term being used for beautiful and fashionable 'older' women. Their definition of older is a little different to mine (I personally don't think Elle MacPherson is old but in the fashion world I guess it is all relative to the accepted norm of 19 year old models).

I have been a fan of so many older (plus 60s) women in terms of their confidence and exuding style. It may not always be strictly fashion but style non the less.

I hope the fashion world do not pass over this trend in too much of a rush. It is lovely and far more inspirational to have older role models that we can look forward to becoming rather than feeling like once you are 25+ you can not be seen as beautiful, stylish or fashionable. Go ladies!

Straightjacket Fits

This is a lovely store in Gisborne, New Zealand who create clothes from recycled / up-cycled garments and also give sewing lessons so that you can create your own. My dad told me about this shop so I have to give him credit! You can visit them at this link http://www.facebook.com/StraightjacketFits

Winter Gardens

I spent the long weekend in Auckland catching up with friends, eating wonderful food at Prego, Nishiki, and Alleluya, vintage shopping at Peachy Keen (my partner purchased what seemed like half of the vinyl at Real Groovy record store) and we walked in the incredible fairytale Winter Gardens in the Auckland Domain.
They were built in the 1920s and are huge glasshouses with an exotic collection of plants and flowers. It is so humid that the plants literally drip onto you.

Snuggly Winter Fashion

Oh there are so many amazing winter / autumn fashion collections out at the moment. I want them all. Lovely photography. I like the pastel shades. Mostly New Zealand designers- great stuff!

I love old things

I am on holiday at the moment so had time today to leisurely look around the op shops (second hand stores). I love the stories that I imagine items have and recycling is much better than buying new products. Also older things feel more authentic or special than cheaper new things.

Fleet Foxes

Very excited about the new Fleet Foxes album out this month on Sub Pop records. I love this video of theirs 'White Winter Hymnal' from their self-titled album.

Scandinavian Fashion

Increasingly I am finding exciting and fabulous new Scandinavian designers. Lovely silhouettes and fabrics that have a simple and elegant feel. Isn't this just the cutest little girl?
